Road Map Contactless
Andrew Roberts (ST) shows that contactless
technology is not a driving one but has being
driven by other technologies. He describes the short
and to long terms technological
challenges for smart cards. The two main challenges
concern memory and communication.
High Speed Communications must be Standardised
and frequency choice needs to be made.
Power consumption remains an issue.
Andrew Roberts concludes by noticing that Contactless
Smart Card has to remain compatible with contact cards
despite its technological differences. International
cooperation is needed if the smart card and its contactless
interface are to succeed.
